A cultural trip through Budapest - Week 4 - Melisa Simoens

Hi there!

This week we are visiting Hungary, the home of the largest synagogue in Europe. We are staying in a picturesque hotel in Budapest, the capital of Hungary like Julie already said. The first day we visited one of the most famous attractions of Hungary: the Budapest Parliament, which Julie talked about as well. We were surprised about the size of this building, more than 18000 square metres! If we would, we could walk there for a whole day! But you must visit the Budapest Parliament too for its decoration, everything is detailed decorated, so beautiful! In the afternoon we looked for a guided tour through the city. We saw the major attractions of Budapest like the Opera house, Castle district, Millennium Memorial et cetera.

After this interesting tour we were all starving so we decided to search for a nice restaurant to eat something. Because we wanted to taste the typical Hungarian cuisine, we all chose a typical Hungarian dish. I tasted Pörkölt, a ragout made from pork, beef and chicken with onions and paprika. Paprika is a typical ingredient for the Hungarian cuisine. It was delicious, if you are In Hungary you must try this dish! After a wonderful evening, we all hit the sack to be fit out for a new day in Budapest.

Dobos cake
We started our next day with a nice walk in one of the biggest parks and certainly one of the most beautiful parks of Budapest: City Park. Then we stopped for a little break in a pleasant tearoom where they sell  a lot of different cakes. We all chose a slice of Dobos cake, a sponge layered with rich chocolate cream and coated with crunchy caramel. It’s a must!

Since Budapest is the city of the spas (Budapest has 118 spas!) we couldn’t leave Hungary without visiting one of course. So we chose the Géllert Bath where we had a couple of hours, just relaxing!

Chainbridge
To end this beautiful day, we went to the Chainbridge where you have a wonderful sight at night when the bridge is beautifully illuminated.

Now it’s time to go to sleep.  Sweet dreams.
Talk to you soon!

xx Melisa
